Field Trip Reflection

Part I: From Haven to Home {Jewish Immigrants}
The purpose of going to this museum, was to learn about the life style of Jews and how they struggled trying to come to America. In this museum, I learned about the American Zionism and how they wanted to keep their homeland before the Civil War broke out. They didn't want to go and fight for their country and lose their homeland because they would have nowhere else to go. I also learned about Haven & Home. Haven is life, work, worship because Jews went through persecution and freedom. Home is their home country and how they struggled there. Some interesting facts that I learned about they Jews, is that they can't eat dairy products. For example today, they couldn't eat a cheeseburger because it has meat and cheese. One last interesting fact that I learned is that, Jews founded Old Town and Balboa Park and they have been living here for 350 years. Overall, I really like this museum because I learned a lot about Jews and how tough their life was. It made me realize how lucky I was to be in America because a lot of people fight today to be in our position.

Part II: Children Immigrants {Around the World}
The picture that struck me the most was the little girl in an Immigration Rally sitting on her relatives shoulder and she finally gets freedom and she waves the American flag with pride. She believes that she can have the opportunity to be someone one day. What I also noticed was that, the girl was about 5 to 6 years old and she struggled a lot with her family to get to the U.S. I hope that this girl has a great education and never take what she has for granite. -Chicago 1998

Quote- "The greatest thing I hope for in my life is to become a successful person and to have a family and friends to support me, not to be looked at by just the color of my skin but who I am inside." -Samira Durakovic, Yugoslavia. I really like this quote because this girl wants to have a successful future and she wants to have friends and family but she doesn't want people judging her based on what she looks like or the color of her skin but what kind of personality she has or maybe her knowledge in school. Everyone can connect to this quote because a lot of kids today still judge people by the color of their skin or what their personality is like.
