Immigration Reflection

Immigration Reflection
By: Meseret Ghirmai

An immigrant is someone who migrates to another country for permanent residency. Immigrants leave their country for various reasons. They could be leaving because they want to finish school and let their kids have an education. They also leave because of health reasons. They may not have medicine or cannot afford medical care. Maybe they are trying to escape from a war and go somewhere safe. They want the freedom of speech and religion, as well as freedom and liberty in the U.S. They want their kids to be safe and they don’t want to have to worry about anything.
The U.S. offers opportunities, liberty, and freedom. The immigrants love that because in their home country those things aren’t available to them. That being the case, immigrants coming to the U.S. do not take anything for granted, to the contrary they are appreciative of every opportunity. In the U.S. we are affected by the immigrants because of their religion, culture, language, food, community, education, and inventions. For example we have Africans, Asians, Indians, Mexicans, Europeans, and more different immigrants from different countries and that’s what makes the U.S. a diverse society.
My life has changed because if my parents didn’t come to the U.S. then I would’ve never been born here and I wouldn’t have been an American citizen either. I have a great opportunity to have a great education. Today we have liberty freedom and a lot of opportunities that we should take advantage of because a lot of people from other countries would love to be in our position right now.
